I believe that the first principle of achieving long-term success in managing money in a relationship is one based on a mutual understanding of the meaning of sacrifice.

It may be possible to approach the future and the daily rigors of life without any planning, but anyone who attempts to live without planning is not likely to achieve their goals.

If Elizabeth and I had not been willing to take risks in our relationship, then our opportunities for excitement and progress would have been greatly diminished.

I decided to pursue education in the insurance industry and took courses to qualify as: fellowship in management (FLMI); chartered life underwriter (CLU); chartered financial consultant (CHFC); certified financial planner (CFP); and I completed the Canadian Securities Course.

The concept of assessment relates to viewing and reviewing our actions.

The final concept that emerged as I looked at the important issues in creating a satisfying financial future was that of discipline.
